Your new pair of dentures represents a serious investment in restoring the full function and appearance of your teeth. Even if you only have top dentures or bottom dentures, a special oral hygiene routine is still needed to help them last for many years to come.

Denture adhesive is a popular way for denture wearers to hold their dentures in place and block out food particles. If you do have some food particles work their way into the space between the dentures and your gums, you should thoroughly rinse the unit and reapply fresh adhesive.

At the end of the day when you take your dentures out, they will need to be rinsed to remove residual denture adhesive and plaque buildup.

You should then brush all the surfaces of your dentures, using soft bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste or denture polish. Then you should soak them overnight in a denture cleaning solution and keep them in a safe place. Soaking removes over 99% of the oral bacteria that brushing cannot remove.

The next day, there will be a smooth surface on the dentures for reapplying the denture adhesive.
